Northwestern Educational Game Research Details

Note: Many points can change based on student and teacher interest

Activity

  • Students will playtest an educational game on unit conversions.

Student Benefits

  • They get to see what research looks like (user experience research).

  • They will be compensated $15-20.

  • They will learn more on how to set up equations to solve unit conversion problems.

  • More?! I'm happy to brainstorm any other ideas that you might think will benefit students!

Teacher’s Responsibility

  • Teachers need to give students two links that will be provided for them and that’s it!

  • One link is a link to permission form online and the other (which has not been made) provides students with a link to sign up for the study.

Population

  • 20-30 students can participate in the study.

  • Students should be going into grades 9th-11th and should have no chemistry experience.

Timing

  • Sessions will be 30-60min.

  • Students will participate one at a time.

  • Students will select a time that works for them on a Calendly link.

Location

  • The study can take place over Zoom or in person.

  • If the study is done on Zoom, I'll the teacher/parent will receive a list of protocols to make sure everything is good for the student (e.g., passwords, randomized links, etc.)

  • Students need to get parent consent for participating in the study
